Introduction

The world of marketing operates within an increasingly dynamic, international arena where competition has intensified and customer needs and wants change by the day. Change occurs in every aspect of the marketing environment; social, economic, political and especially technological with digital developments. Marketing has focused on satisfying customer needs profitability but achieving ‘customer delight' seems necessary now for commercial success.

The Master of Science in Marketing is a high level formal qualification that is recognised across the globe. It also benefits from our strong relationships with professional bodies like the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM). Gaining this degree can lead to stronger employability and significantly higher career goals.

This programme is conducted in partnership with the Newcastle Business School (NBS), which is a part of Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK. The delivery is the same as in UK; with identical course content, contact hours and examination procedures.

Programme Objective

This degree introduces students to classic and contemporary marketing theories and concepts and applies them to real life business cases and best industry practice. It also aims to provide a course of study that will enable students to develop intellectual and analytical skills related to the field of Marketing. As such, students would develop their ability further to apply marketing knowledge and analysis to practical situations. The course of study strives to cultivate a student's interpersonal and transferable skills can lead to opportunities for professional development.

Programme Structure & Curriculum

These programmes involve lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Weekly lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by Northumbria University.

Classes are usually held four to six times weekly from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and/or from 2.00pm – 5.00pm on weekdays with a total of up to 36 contact hours per module.

This programme involves lectures, group discussions, case studies and presentations by students. Lectures are conducted by qualified and experienced local lecturers approved by Northumbria University . Classes are usually held four to six times a week from 9.30am to 12.30pm, and/or from 2.00pm – 5.00pm on weekdays.

Examinations & Assessment

All students are required to sit for a written examination for all modules at the end of each semester. Students must fulfil the attendance requirement of at least 75% for each module before they are considered eligible to take the end-of-semester examinations.

A student must complete the MA Marketing programme within five years of registration, which is from the commencement of the first semester.

Assessment will be in accordance with the academic regulations of Northumbria as set out in the Standard Assessment Regulations under Unitisation/Assessment Regulations for Northumbria Awards (as applicable). The Divisional Examination Board and the Progression and Awards Board will determine the appropriateness of assessment, student progression and classification.

Award of Certificate

Students who have completed all necessary course works, successfully passed all required modules and met all financial obligations to the institute and Northumbria University shall be awarded the Master of Arts Marketing by Northumbria University and be allowed to use the designatory letters “MA Marketing” after their name.

Entry Requirements

All applicants must possess:

  • Recognised basic degree in a business or cognate discipline;
  • First degree or professional qualification in other discipline plus relevant experience;
  • Recognised basic degree PLUS recognised graduate diploma or equivalent professional qualification may be admitted with up to 40 points credit;
  • Recognised degree PLUS CIMUK Postgraduate Diploma qualifications may be admitted with up to 80 points credit.

Northumbria University reserves the right to change the above requirements and selection at their sole discretion.

A non-refundable application processing fee of S$107.00 (incl. 7% GST) is chargeable upon application and submission of documents.

The course fees cover course materials and tuition by local tutors and DOES NOT include textbooks and other miscellaneous charges, if any.

MIS Membership

The Marketing Institute of Singapore is a professional body for sales and marketing practitioners. All successful applicants must be affiliate members of the Institute. The following discounted membership charges apply:

  • Entrance fee of S$53.50 (incl. 7% GST)
  • Annual Subscription fee of S$53.50 (incl. 7% GST)

Payment of fees may be made by cash, cheque, NETS and all major credit cards.

Changes & Amendments

Northumbria University and the Marketing Institute reserve the right to vary, change and amend the module content, entry requirements, course fees, curriculum, examination rules and regulations, lecturers, lecture date, venue and other aspects of the course at any time prior to and during the running of the modules.

An applicant must complete the prescribed Northumbria University application form and return it together with the following documents:

For Local Students:

  1. CERTIFIED TRUE COPIES of educational certificates may be made by your school or at Marketing Institute of Singapore, in which case, the originals must be presented for verification.
  2. Two passport-sized photographs.
  3. A crossed cheque of S$107.00 (incl. 7% GST) for the application processing fee (non-refundable) made payable to “MIS Training Centre”. Payment by Cash, NETS and credit cards are accepted at the Institute.

For International Students:

  1. 2 copies of the Full-Time Programme Application Form, Form 16 and Form V36 – duly completed and signed by applicant at the relevant sections (the first set of forms must be original. The second set may be photocopies of the original set).
  2. 4 recent passport-sized photographs (colour / black & white);
  3. Applicant’s official birth certificate (original copy);
  4. Applicant’s certified / notarized copies of highest educational certificates and result transcripts; (original copy);
  5. Applicant’s parents’ employment letter (including position, salary and period of work). This document can be issued by the company which he/she works for. A English version must attached if the employment letter is not written in English; (This employment letter is needed for Visa required country only);
  6. Applicant’s Passport photocopy and Personal particular page of applicant’s travel document (photocopy);
  7. Documentary proof of financial ability at minimum of S$30,000 (i.e., equal to RMB150,000 or R$750,000.00) for more than half a year in the form of bank statements / fixed deposit accounts / saving accounts (original copy). (Documentary proof of financial ability is needed for Visa required country only);
