BTEC LEVEL 5 HND IN BUSINESS (MANAGEMENT)
Introduction
This programme is designed to provide an excellent business management education. You will develop key management skills and techniques found in the management of strategic projects, financial analysis, strategic management of markets and people within the context of a dynamic contemporary business environment.
Programme Objective
- To equipping individuals with knowledge, understanding and skills for success in a range of administrative, management and business;
- To providing specialist routes of study which relate to individual professions within the business world in which learners are working or intend to seek employment;
- To enabling progression to an undergraduate degree or further professional qualification in business or a related area;
- To supporting individuals employed or entering employment in the business field;
- To developing the individual's ability in the business field through effective use and combination of the knowledge and skills gained in different parts of the programme;
- To developing a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attributes essential for successful performance in working life and thereby enable learners to make an immediate contribution to employment;
- To providing flexibility, knowledge, skills and motivation as a basis for future studies and career development in business.

Delivery of the module/unit will be through a blend of lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops (if applicable). Lectures are a major part of the teaching strategy for the programme. Case studies are a teaching and learning strategy, which are employed in a range of modules: they are a useful assessment tool. Students are presented with real or simulated complex problems which they are required to analyse in detail and then synthesise/present their own solution in writing or orally.
Students are expected to take greater responsibility for their own learning as they progress through their programmes. The student-centred approach will be encouraged through the use of specific teaching strategies; case studies; projects and practical exercises (if applicable), supplemented by the use of appropriate support materials; etc. Active engagement with the subject material enhances learning and many of the learning strategies used attempt to promote this.
Examinations & Assessment
The BTEC HND in Business (Management) is assessed by written assignments in total (of 2,500 – 3,500 words each). The assessment strategies are designed to provide fitness for purpose for the individual units of study. Assessments relate directly to learning outcomes and one assessment usually covers a range of learning outcomes. Assessments take the form of examinations (seen/unseen, open book, essays/short answers – if applicable), report, case study, presentations, individual and/or group reports etc. All assessments are equal weighting.
Award of Certificate
Students are required to successfully pass 16 modules/units for a Higher National Diploma award. Successful HND students can progress into the final year of the Bachelor degree programme recommended by the Edexcel UK and/or MISTC.
Entry Requirements
All applicants must possess:
- GCE O level 3 passes
- GCE A levels 1 pass
- Other recognized foundation programmes including LCCI, Cambridge Advance Diploma, NTC, NITEC or equivalent
- Matured students who do not possess the above qualifications but have relevant work experience may also be considered
- Foreign students with successful completion of 12 years of general academic qualification (GCE A level equivalent)
- If English is not the first language, student should normally have reached a level of competence equivalent to a TOEFL score of 525 or Band 5.5 on the IELTS scale or MISTC Level 4 English or an equivalent qualification.
Student without the required English language proficiency are required to take the English Placement test and English preparatory program offered by MISTC.

The full course fee is payable prior to the course commencement. Payment by instalments is available subject to approval on a case by case basis. An additional one-time administration fee for instalment payment is also chargeable at S$350.00.
A non-refundable application processing fee of S$300.00 (subject to prevailing GST rate) is chargeable upon application and submission of documents. Upon successful application, a one-time administrative fee of S$600.00 (subject to prevailing GST rate) is payable.
The course fees cover lesson delivery, Fee Protection Scheme insurance, medical insurance, MIS membership, and DO NOT include textbooks and other miscellaneous charges, if any.
MIS Membership
The Marketing Institute of Singapore is a professional body for sales and marketing practitioners. All successful applicants must be individual members of the Institute.
Changes & Amendments
The Marketing Institute of Singapore Training Centre reserves the right to vary, change and amend the module content, entry requirements, course fees, curriculum, examination rules and regulations, lecturers, lecture date, venue and other aspects of the course at any time prior to and during the delivery of the modules.
